Meta has entered a $27 billion joint venture with Blue Owl Capital to accelerate development of its Hyperion data center in Louisiana. The facility, projected to deliver over 2 gigawatts of computing power, will support training for large language models like those behind ChatGPT and Google Gemini.

Blue Owl holds an 80% stake after contributing $7 billion in cash, while Meta retains 20% ownership and operational control. The social media giant received a $3 billion payout as part of the deal, calling the partnership essential for achieving its "long-term AI ambitions" with greater speed and flexibility.

The agreement reflects soaring infrastructure demands as tech firms race to build AI capabilities. Morgan Stanley estimates Alphabet, Amazon, Microsoft and peers will spend $400 billion on such projects this year alone. OpenAI has reportedly secured commitments exceeding $1 trillion for 26 gigawatts of computing capacity.
